Preparing for Spring: Planting the Seeds for Healthy Change

As winter begins to loosen its grip, we find ourselves on the edge of a new season. Spring is often

associated with growth, energy, and fresh starts — but before the flowers bloom, there is preparation happening beneath the surface.

This “in-between” season is the perfect time to begin preparing ourselves and our families for healthy change.

After months of colder weather and busier indoor routines, it can help to gently reset. Start small. Take inventory of daily habits. Are sleep routines consistent? Are meals balanced? Has screen time crept up during the darker months? Identifying one or two areas for improvement now makes the transition into spring smoother and more sustainable.

Preparation can also mean creating space — physically and mentally. Spring cleaning is not just about closets and garages. It can be about clearing mental clutter, setting new goals, and letting go of habits that no longer serve us. Talk as a family about what you would like this next season to look like. More time outside? More shared meals? A new activity or hobby?

For parents, this is also a meaningful time to check in with children and teens. As schedules shift with sports, activities, and social events, conversations about decision-making, peer influence, and healthy boundaries become increasingly important. Building confidence and communication now helps young people navigate the busier months ahead.

Just like a garden must be prepared before planting, our healthy habits grow best when we take time to prepare the soil. Small, intentional steps today can lead to stronger choices tomorrow.

Spring is coming. What seeds will you plant?
